We have a host of programs and events to encourage, educate, connect, and lift the spirits of African peoples throughout the diaspora.

The AIM Chess Club

Children ages 7-17 years old come to the AIM Headquarters in Okponglo, East Legon (Ghana, Africa) and learn to play chess. They subsequently compete in chess tournaments. This project not only teaches chess but also helps them to learn English, develop their problem-solving abilities, and gain confidence.

Chess has long been regarded as a game that can have beneficial effects on learning on development, especially when it is played from a young age. In countries where chess is offered widely in schools, students exhibit excellence in the ability to recognize complex patterns and consequently excel in math and science.

Kwanzaa Education and Celebrations

Kwanzaa is a pan-African holiday that celebrates family, community, and culture created by Dr. Maulana Karenga in 1966 and celebrated from December 26–January 1.

Here at AIM, we understand that the Principles of Kwanzaa (Nguzu Saba) are a solid foundation to build yourself, your family, your community, and the diaspora as a whole.

Events are centered around UNITY, SELF-DETERMINATION, COLLECTIVE WORK AND RESPONSIBILITY, COOPERATIVE ECONOMICS, PURPOSE, CREATIVITY AND FAITH.

At each event, we feed all of the children in the village, host KWANZAA themed games and prizes, gift all children in the village school supplies, and teach workshops around the Principles of Kwanzaa.

We also host online candle lighting ceremonies where we discuss each principle in-depth with special guests that have particular insight into how the principle of the day can be implemented in our lives.

Annual Shoe Drive

Over 1.5 billion people suffer from soil-transmitted diseases worldwide. Without shoes, children are especially vulnerable to soil-transmitted diseases and parasites that can cause illness and even death.

Children who get sick miss school, can’t help their families and suffer needlessly. And since children’s feet grow so quickly, they often outgrow donated shoes within a year, leaving them once again exposed to illness and disease.

Wonderful people donate hundreds of new and gently used shoes during the month of October every year. We ship those shoes to our adopted villages in Ghana, West Africa. We are hoping to ship to more countries in 2020.
